How to do ombre nails at home
Do you want to do ombre nails yourself? It’s fairly easy to do and can look gorgeous when done correctly! Here’s a step-by-step on how to down ombre nails:
Step 1: Before applying any nail polish, it’s important to start with clean dry nails. Make sure there is no dirt, old nail polish dust, or oils as this can cause your nail polish not to adhere correctly and chip quicker. Clean your nails with nail wipe or paper towel.
Step 2: Start by polishing your nails with a base color. You’ll want to make sure your nails are completely dry before moving to step 3, as a wet base can ruin the ombre.
Step 3: Now it’s time to ombre! Choose 2-3 colors for your ombre and apply them to a sponge. Start with your lightest color and then work your way to the darkest color. Be sure the colors should overlap a bit to give a gradient effect!
Step 4: Gently press the sponge to your nail, making sure to cover the entire nail. Be sure not to wipe, as this can ruin the ombre. Blot and lighting pat down. Repeat steps 3-4 for all nails.
Step 5: Apply your top coat! My favorite is butter LONDON shine topcoat and tada! Your ombre mani (or pedi) is complete!

Step 4: Dip half of your nail with a medium color. Brush off any excess, and then dip the tip of your nail with the darkest color.
How to choose the best color for your ombre nails
When it comes to ombre nails, the possibilities are virtually endless! From a subtle two-tone look to an eye-catching gradient effect, you can find the perfect combination of colors no matter your style.
To get the best results, here are some tips for choosing the right colors for your ombre nails:
What colors look great on your complexion:
The colors that look best on you will depend largely on your skin tone. Consider the shades of makeup that you wear, as well as any clothing colors that make you feel confident. Go with complementary colors: Pick two colors that work together.
For example, if you have a light skin tone, you can opt for softer pastel hues such as pink and lavender. If you have a darker complexion, you can go for bolder shades such as pink and yellow (my personal favorite!).
What’s your style?
Do you prefer a classic look or something more daring? Consider the colors that represent your personal style and pick hues that make an impact without being too over the top.
Mix it up & experiment:
Experiment with different combinations of colors. You can use two shades from the same color family (such as pink and coral) or choose contrasting shades (like navy blue and white).
What’s the season?
I’m a firm believer in wearing whatever you want, whenever you want (that’s right, I wear white before AND after labor day, lol), but if you’re truly perplexed when it comes to what ombre nail colors you should choose, thinking about the season? Are you doing your nails in spring, summer, winter, or fall?
For example, during holidays, you can opt for a red and green ombre since it’s festive, or during the summer, a yellow and pink ombre since those are bright summer colors!
Ultimately, the options are endless, and you get to choose what colors you want to rock! By following these tips, you’ll be sure to find the perfect combination for your ombre nails! Have fun experimenting with color, and know that ombre nails aren’t permanent! You can always switch it up!

Wondering can you do ombré with gel dip? How about ombre with gel nails? The answer is YES, you can ombre with gel and dip! You can use ombre to create a stunning gradient look for your nails. With gel dip, you get the same results as if you used traditional nail polish, but the finish is more durable and long-lasting.
To achieve the ombre look with gel dip, you will need to use a few different colors of dip powder. Start by applying the lightest color on your entire nails. When done correctly and with the proper care, ombre nails typically last for around 7 – 21 days, depending if it’s regular nail polish, dip powder, or gel.

Ensure you also wait for at least 1 minutes between each layer to allow the polish to fully dry before adding another layer. Once your ombre nails are finished, it is also important to keep them from coming in contact with water or chemicals such as fragranced lotion, oils, and cleaning products to ensure that the color does not fade.
Finally, be sure to apply nourishing cuticle oil to keep your nails looking healthy and shiny. With proper care, you can ensure that your ombre nails will last for weeks before needing to remove your nail polish and needing a new set.
Why are ombre nails so expensive?
Ombre nails require a lot of skill, artistry, and time to achieve. They involve layering and blending different colors of polish to create a gradient effect, which takes quite a bit of technique to do properly.
Furthermore, the complexity of the design can call for special tools and materials, such as nail art brushes and sponges. All of these factors contribute to the cost of ombre nails, making them more expensive than the average manicure.
It’s also worth noting that some salons may charge extra for specific color combinations or designs, which can add to the price.
What’s the difference between ombre and gradient nails?
The terms “ombre” and “gradient” nails are often used interchangeably but in reality, they refer to two different nail art techniques.
Ombre nails feature a light to dark transition, with the lighter color on the tips and darker color nearer to the cuticles.

Dip powder is a pre-mixed powder that is applied directly to the nail (or, shall I say, dipped into the nail). At the same time, acrylic is a monomer designed to provide your nails additional length and shape.
And since acrylic is a nail enhancement, you can actually choose to do your ombre with gel, acrylic, OR both! You can apply acrylics to make your nails longer and gel for the ombre effect.
Basically, you don’t have to choose!
Can ombre nails be done on natural nails?
Yes, you can do ombre on your natural nails! This look is a great way to show off your creativity and have some fun with your nails. While the ombre may not last as long on your natural nails since it is not as durable as gel or acrylic.
