If you follow my food instagtam or snapchat (breonnaqueen) then you may know I started a 30 day Keto challenge. I’m currently on day 6 and while there are drawbacks, so far I am loving it.
I’m actually considering making it 60 days Keto instead with carb rotations and an actual cheat meal once every 2 weeks.
If you don’t know what Keto is, there’s this thing called Google that will tell you (joking lol) but no, really lol. It’s a low carb, adequate protein, and high fat diet. When your body is low on carbs, it will burn fat. That’s the goal.
I don’t eat a lot of bread because my body has a gluten sensitivity, however, I love sugar (carbs) so I’m trying to reduce my intake. Prior to starting keto, I was eating a cookie with icecream everyday. I would have these cravings and I would always go with them. My pants fitting tighter from the belly gain despite the scale staying the same, no energy, face breakouts, feeling horrible after every meal. I knew I needed to change.
I have microcytic anemia which means my red blood cells are smaller than normal. It was inherited from my maternal side (thalassemia). It doesn’t mean too much except I never get to donate blood because my iron always appears to be too low (which sucks!). So Keto works for me because I still get to have all the meats… steak, beef, chicken, seafood pork (although I don’t eat much of that) and the dark leafy greens I love (Yes, I’m one of those people who loveeeeee spinach and kale) for the iron.
It’s only been 5 days but within the 5 days this is what I’ve had so far:
- Sugar withdraws (I’m hoping after 1-2 weeks the sugar withdraws are GONE like the were with the 21 day fix)
- No energy (the first 3 days)
- LOTS of energy (day 4 and today)
- Face looking better (less breakouts)
- Suppressed Appetite (Because fat fills you up faster than carbs, I feel like my belly is shrinking)
- Able to pay attention better
- Weight lost (3lbs in 4 days, probably water weight though)
And this is just the first 5 days…. I can’t wait for whats next!
