I’m over 60. This is how I dress stylish without being frumpy or boring!
Just because I’m in my 60s doesn’t mean I suddenly have to dress in shapeless clothes or give up on looking stylish. In fact, I think getting older gives you even more confidence to wear what makes you feel amazing.
The truth is, great style doesn’t have an age limit and you absolutely don’t have to look frumpy to dress comfortably.

How to Dress Better Over 60: 17+ tips stylish women over 60 follow
Dress for the Life You Live Today
One of the best style tips I can give you is to dress for the life you have now—not the one you had 10, 20 or even 30 years ago.
Maybe you’re retired, traveling more, enjoying time with grandkids, volunteering, working part-time, or simply spending more time doing the things you love. Your wardrobe should support your lifestyle while still making you feel confident every time you get dressed.
Focus on Fit, Not the Size Tag
Can I let you in on a little secret? The number on the clothing tag doesn’t matter nearly as much as how your clothes actually fit.
Every brand sizes differently anyway, so don’t get caught up trying to wear a certain number. Instead, choose the size that fits your body comfortably and flatters your shape. You’ll look far more polished wearing the right fit than squeezing into a smaller size.
Choose Clothes That Skim Your Body
You don’t need clothes that are skin-tight, but you also don’t need to hide behind oversized pieces.
The sweet spot is clothing that gently skims your body without clinging or overwhelming your frame. This creates a balanced silhouette that feels comfortable, flattering, and effortlessly elegant.
Invest in Better Basics
The easiest way to build a stylish wardrobe is to start with quality basics.
Think well-fitting jeans, tailored trousers, soft knit sweaters, a classic blazer, simple tees, button-down shirts, and versatile jackets. These timeless pieces become the foundation of countless outfits, making getting dressed much easier every morning.
Wear Colors That Bring Your Face to Life
The right color can completely brighten your complexion. Certain shades can make your skin appear healthier, your eyes sparkle, and your entire face look more refreshed. On the flip side, wearing colors that don’t complement your natural coloring can leave you looking more tired than you actually are.
If you’ve never discovered your best colors, my Discover Your Color Kit helps you identify your most flattering colors—and the ones to avoid—in less than 15 minutes. It’s one of the simplest ways to make everything in your closet work harder for you.
Keep One Eye on Today’s Styles
You don’t have to follow every trend to look current. Sometimes updating just one or two pieces like your jeans, handbag, jacket, or sunglasses is enough to give your entire wardrobe a fresh feel.
Fashion evolves, and it’s okay for your style to evolve with it while still staying true to who you are.
Mix Textures to Make an Outfit More Interesting
One of my favorite ways to elevate an outfit is by mixing textures.
Pair a chunky knit sweater with satin pants, denim with suede boots, linen with leather accessories, or a soft cotton tee with a structured blazer. These little combinations make even neutral outfits feel rich and intentional.
Wear Necklines That Flatter Your Face
A neckline can completely change how an outfit looks on you. Many women find that V-necks, scoop necks, square necklines, and boat necks beautifully frame the face while creating a softer, more balanced look.
Sometimes the smallest change can make the biggest difference.
Let Accessories Do the Heavy Lifting
Accessories are where your personality gets to shine. A statement necklace, beautiful earrings, colorful scarf, stylish handbag, or chic sunglasses can instantly transform a simple outfit into something memorable.
You don’t need dozens of accessories—just a few that make you smile every time you wear them.
Update Your Shoes Every Few Years
Shoes have a bigger impact on your outfit than most people realize.
Even if you’re wearing classic wardrobe staples, an outdated shoe can make your entire look feel dated. Swapping older styles for sleek sneakers, loafers, ballet flats, ankle boots, or modern sandals can instantly refresh your outfit.
Tailoring Is Your Secret Weapon
Want your clothes to look more expensive? Visit a tailor.
Simple adjustments like hemming pants, shortening sleeves, or taking in a blazer can completely transform how your clothes fit. Tailoring often makes affordable clothing look custom-made.
Coordinate Your Hair, Makeup, and Outfit
Sometimes it isn’t your clothes that need updating. A flattering haircut, healthy-looking hair, fresh makeup, and a polished outfit work together to create a cohesive look.
Even something as simple as adding lipstick or defining your brows can make your entire outfit feel more put together.
Dress for Your Body Shape
Every body is beautiful, and every body deserves clothing that fits well. Instead of buying something simply because it’s popular, choose silhouettes that complement your unique body shape. The right cuts can highlight your favorite features while making you feel comfortable and confident.
If you’re unsure which styles flatter your figure most, my Discover Your Body Shape Kit walks you through the best necklines, silhouettes, clothing cuts, and styling tips for your body type so shopping becomes much less overwhelming.
Comfort Can Still Look Chic
Comfort and style are not opposites. Thankfully, today’s fashion offers so many beautiful options that feel just as good as they look. Soft fabrics, stretch denim, comfortable shoes, breathable materials, and relaxed silhouettes can all be incredibly stylish.
You deserve clothes that let you move through your day comfortably without sacrificing your personal style.
Don’t Be Afraid of Color
Who decided women over 60 should only wear beige, gray, black, and navy? If wearing coral, emerald green, cobalt blue, lavender, or raspberry pink makes you happy, wear it.
Color has a wonderful way of bringing energy and personality to an outfit, and it can instantly make your wardrobe feel more vibrant.
Modern Doesn’t Mean Trendy
Looking modern doesn’t mean chasing every fashion trend that pops up on social media. Instead, focus on timeless pieces with updated silhouettes. A modern blazer, straight-leg jeans, a fresh handbag, or contemporary sneakers can make your wardrobe feel current without feeling like you’re trying too hard.
The goal is to look like yourself—just refreshed.
Dress Like the Most Confident Version of Yourself
The most stylish women I know aren’t trying to copy anyone else. They’ve figured out what makes them feel beautiful, comfortable, and confident, and they lean into it.
Maybe that’s classic tailoring. Maybe it’s colorful dresses. Maybe it’s bold jewelry or crisp white shirts. Whatever your signature style is, own it.
Style Has No Age Limit
The truth is, confidence never goes out of style. A lot of the most fashionable women in the world are well into their 60s, 70s, and beyond because they know what works for them.
They wear clothes that fit beautifully, reflect their personalities, and make them feel good. And that’s exactly what great style is all about.

Final Words
Getting dressed after 60 doesn’t mean following a long list of fashion rules or trying to look younger. It simply means choosing clothes that fit your lifestyle, flatter your body, and make you feel like the best version of yourself.
Wear colors that make you glow, invest in timeless pieces you’ll reach for again and again, and don’t be afraid to let your personality shine. Because style isn’t about your age—it’s about your confidence. And that’s something that’s always in fashion.

A few off the top of my head:
1. V-neck knit tops — . They visually lengthen a short torso and open up the chest area without adding bulk.
2. wrap-style tops — gives that polished blouse effect while naturally accommodating us fuller bust girls. Just make sure to look for styles that aren’t overly gathered at the waist.
3. Open-collar knit polos — These are fantastic if you like the preppy sophistication of a button-down. Think a beautiful knit polo with an open V-shaped neckline rather than a traditional golf shirt. You get a collar and some shoulder structure without buttons fighting across the chest.
Hope this helps!
Can you give me some alternative options for button up shirts? I have a short torso, very heavy chest and narrow shoulders so button up shirts are not an option for me.
